Abstract
SYNOPSISOne tenth of all patients admitted to hospital via a psychiatric emergency clinic were found to be alcoholic. Of these, just over half were recognized as such by a psychiatrist in training at initial interview. The reasons are assessed, with discussion of the implications for post-graduate education in alcoholism.
