Abstract
The time of action and morphological pattern of damage of eight recessive autosomal lethals inCoelopa frigida(F.) is described. Seven embryonic lethals are phase-specific in their time of action but lethalglassymay cause death at any time from the beginning of the third instar onwards.A method for estimating the preadult viability of heterozygotes for lethals is described. Heterozygotes for lethalE/L3show some impairment of viability, whereas, under conditions of larval competition heterozygotes for lethalE/L4are superior in viability to their wild type sibs.
