Observations Requiring a Non-Standard Approach

Abstract

Extragalactic astronomy rests on the assumption that red-shifts are always equal to velocities and that large velocities are unambiguous distance indicators. There are now many observations which disprove this fundamental assumption. We here review the evidence which has been accumulating for 20 years with particular emphasis on the most recent developments.
