Abstract

This article explores the powerful influence of social media on the construction and reconstruction of students' self-image. The purpose of this research is to examine the implications of social media on students' perception and expression of themselves in an online environment. Using a qualitative research design, this study employed interviews and surveys to collect data from a diverse sample of students. The findings reveal that social media platforms play a significant role in shaping students' self-image, as they provide opportunities for self-presentation and comparison with peers. The study found that social media platforms enable students to project an idealized version of themselves, often leading to a distorted perception of reality. Additionally, the constant exposure to curated images and narratives on social media can adversely impact students' self-esteem and mental well-being.
