Abstract

The presence of the Palaearctic blackfly species Simulium reptans (Linnaeus, 1758) in Kazakhstan is reported for the first time. The accuracy of identification was confirmed by molecular genetic studies. This article provides information on the species' general distribution and illustrates its habitats in Northern Kazakhstan. Details on the detection sites, habitat, and bionomics of S. reptans are described, along with illustrations of its pupae and male genitalia.
