Abstract
Research objective: The article aims to identify examples of sustainable use of natural resources among the oldest members of families and social circles whose life histories are connected with rural farming.
Methodology: An additional objective was to gather and document Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) preserved in the memories of individuals directly involved in agricultural activities. The study was conducted among residents of the Brzozowski, Jarosławski, Stalowowolski, Kolbuszowski counties, and the Złoczowski county (Ukraine) from April to June 2024.
Main conclusions: The research focused on the significance of trees, shrubs, and other plants in the life of traditional rural households, documenting how these resources were sustainably utilized by older generations.
Application of the study: The findings can be used to promote sustainable agriculture and the preservation of traditional ecological knowledge, contributing to a better understanding of practices that can be integrated into contemporary farming.
Originality/Novelty of the study: The originality of the research lies in its focus on the older members of rural communities and their traditional ecological knowledge, which is often overlooked in modern ecological and agricultural studies.
