Smart power and its role in reducing crisesAn exploratory study in the Iraqi security institutions

Abstract

The current research seeks to identify the role of smart power in facing crises of various kinds, and limiting them, as confronting them requires employing a mixture of hard power and soft power, represented by smart power. The extent to which the forces (hard and soft) contribute to reducing crises, as the Iraqi security institutions are trying to achieve their goals in preserving state systems, activating constructive dialogue with the parties, and providing a comfortable life for members of society by mixing forces. The descriptive analytical method was used. The questionnaire that was distributed to a sample of employees of the Iraqi security institutions, and by (60) forms were collected, sorted, analyzed and interpreted. A number of statistical methods were used to extract the values of correlation and effect coefficients, in order to verify the validity of testing the hypotheses developed. The research reached to a number of conclusions were the most important: the employment of smart power in institutions and security services has an effective role in limiting the occurrence of crises of various kinds and forms that affect the joints of the state of all civil, security and military and the lives of citizens. The research reached a number of proposals, the most important of which were: The necessity of using smart power in resolving the current crises and confronting the expected ones that affect the financial, economic, technological, social, political, security and environmental capabilities and capabilities of the state.
