Fish Processing Wastewater Treatment Requirements by Line Production Changes

Abstract

An Italian seafood factory, engaged in the preparation of retail fish products, was investigated. The behaviour of the wastewater treatment plant constituted by a low load biological oxidation, with nitrogen denitrification was studied. Operative difficulties connected with the quali-quantitative changes in the industrial production are evidenced. The major points outlined are: start-up at design conditions, four years' management at extended oxidation (SRT = 80 days), discharge lines organization to assure plant efficiency after introducing seafood prefrying production.
