Abstract
Problem finding (PF) is that ability to search for and identify aspects of reality that could be improved during the creative process, on which to focus the effort and personal resources. There is a wide set of terms used in the specialized literature to refer to this psychological resource (finding, identification, formulation, discovery, sensitivity, among others). Compared to other related constructs such as divergent thinking or problem solving, PF has received less attention. The objective of this work is to vindicate its relevance and to provide a synthesis regarding the terms and processes linked to the PF. The review of the literature allows us to identify certain regularities and agreements between the authors: The FP interacts with problem solving, includes both convergent and divergent skills, is present throughout the creative process, and includes different levels or formats. The different contributions regarding the relationship of the FP with other relevant variables such as gender, age, personality or creativity itself are reviewed. Finally, the need for a greater scientific effort and greater attention in educational centers is claimed. To promote this key psychological resource is important in order to better understand our present and optimize our future.
