Abstract
As a specialty, rheumatology predominantly provides care for people living with chronic musculoskeletal disease. Most of the patient care delivered in contemporary rheumatology services is provided on an outpatient basis, whereas the need for inpatient care has declined over the last 2 decades in parallel with the expanding availability of effective therapeutics that can be administered by patients in their own home.
