Abstract
1. The assumption that insulin binding to monocytes reflects that of insulin binding to adipocytes has been examined.
2. In normal, diabetic, thyrotoxic and cirrhotic subjects no correlation was observed between monocyte and adipocyte insulin binding.
3. Extrapolation is not justified from monocyte binding data to conclusions about insulin-sensitive tissues.
