Abstract
Diethyl pyrocarbonate inactivates muscle pyruvate kinase with the substitution of 3–4 histidine residues per subunit. Phosphoenolpyruvate, ATP and ADP to a lesser extent, and Mg2+ and pyruvate to a small extent, protect against inactivation.
