Abstract

The article examines a set of toponyms that nominate the address-forming localities of the street and road network (street, alley, avenue, etc.) registered at the territory of the Oktyabrsky district of the Volgograd region. In the study, the corresponding geographical names of linear topographic localities placed within a settlement of any type (city, town, village, hamlet, etc.) are considered as godonyms. The research material analysis resulted in identification of the following linguistic codes, which are implemented in the godonyms of the region under study: memorative, locative, topographic, anthropogenic, symbolic, naturalistic, conditionally abstract, ethnic. The frequency of the identified linguistic codes in small settlements reflects the multidirectional processes of globalization and glocalization in the onomastic nomination. When designating the names of linear localities, topographic and anthropogenic linguistic codes prevail, since such nominations are closely related to the territory on which the settlement is located and the lifestyle of its inhabitants, as well as a conditionally abstract code, which reveals the linguistic and cultural unity of people. It has been established that in small settlements, unlike in urban ones, the process of globalization is reflected in relatively abstract names, the process of glocalization is reflected in locative names, while topographic and memorative onyms provide evidence of both of these processes.
