Abstract
A quantitative study has been made of the thyroid uptake of 131I in the mouse after treatment with sodium iodide, diiodotyrosine, thyroxine, and n-butyl-3:5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzoate (BDHB). The findings have been correlated with the degree of breakdown of the last three compounds, as shown by tests for inorganic iodide in the urine. The results suggest that BDHB inhibits thyroid uptake of 131I by some mechanism other than that of breakdown to inorganic iodide.
