Abstract
By irradiation with 1.3 · 1019 fast neutrous per cm2 at about 50°C the α ⇄ β ·inversion of pure SiO2-Cristobalite is markedly displaced to lower temperatures. The lattice parameters increase. Repeated tempering up to 500°C does not change the irradiated state. Tempering at 1600°C gives full recovery and restores the inversion temperatures before irradiation. — An addition of TiO2 to pure SiO2-Cristobalite produces a Cristobalite with similar inversion temperatures as irradiated Cristobalite. The lattice parameters are also increased.
