Abstract
Abstract
Crystalline CuAlCl4 was prepared from CuCl and AlCl3 in a quartz tube at 533 K. The crystal structure was determined [P4̄2c, a = 543.0(1), c = 1009.6(1) pm, Z = 2, Rw =0.034 for 345 reflections]. The chlorine atoms form a distorted cubic close-packed lattice, with copper and aluminium each occupying an eighth of the tetrahedral holes (site symmetries 4̄ and 222, respectively).
