Abstract
The swelling of collagen in alcanols is described.
The n-alcanolmolecules are deposited between the protofibrillayers in orderly fashion. The changes of the equatorial reflexes indicate a strong relation between the spaces of protofibrils and the length of alcanol-chains.
The equatorial spacings can be distinguished over the limit of 15 A, measured in swelling by water.
