Abstract
Intercalation compounds with the limiting composition (n - CnH2n+1NH2)x · TiS2 with x = 0.95 - 1.02 for n = 4 - 10 and x = 1.05 for n ≥ 16 are formed from crystalline titaniumdisulfide and liquid n-alkylamine. The guest molecules are arranged in bimolecular layers between the layers of the host lattice; the tilting angle of n-alkylchains from 4 to 9 carbon atoms per chain is 56°; with 16 or more carbon atoms in the chain they stand perpendicular to the layers of the host lattice. With intermediate chain lengths random sequencies of both structures have been observed. Preparation of the compounds is facilitated by a two-step reaction:
