Abstract

Abstract A high power pulsed source has been employed for emission spectrographic determination of halogens. The experiments were conducted in various gases (rare or diatomic gas). This method may be applied to all metalloids. The sensitivity can be improved in comparison with that obtained in air under normal pressure: 100 ppm instead of 400 for fluorine (He: 460 Torr), 1 ppm instead of 10 for the bromine (Ar: 380 Torr). Depending on the nature and pressure of the working-gas, collisions of the second kind or quenching collisions are predominant.
