Abstract

o-Allylphenyldiphenylphosphine, o-CH2 : CH • CH2 • C6H4 • PPh2, reacts with Group VI metal diolefin carbonyls to give stable, chelate complexes (ligand) M (CO)4 (M = Cr, Mo or W), in which the ligand has isomerised to o-propenylphenyldiphenylphosphine, o-CH3 • CH : CH • C6H4 • PPh2. These are the first mono-olefin complexes of the three Group VI metals. Infrared spectral measurements suggest that coordination of the double bond is strongest in the case of tungsten.
