Abstract

Abstract Dehalogenation of tmp2GaCl (tmp = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidino group) with sodium/ potassium alloy leads to the digallane (tmp)2Ga-Ga (tmp)2 as a pale yellow solid. Alterna­tively this digallane is prepared in good yields by reaction of four equivalents of tmpLi with Ga2Cl4·2 dioxane. Ga2(tmp)4 is characterized by MS. NMR (1H and 13C) and X ray structure determination. The gallium-gallium bond length is 252.5(1) pm and its two GaN2 units are twisted by 31° against each other.
