Abstract
Abstract
Species of Zygaena (Lepidoptera) have been fed with leaves of Lathyrus pratensis rich in chlorophylls and carotenoids. The metabolism of the pigments was followed in eggs, larvae, pupae, and imagines of the insects. No chlorophylls, only lutein - the main carotenoid of the food plants - was stored in the animals. Traces of α-zeacarotene, absent in plants, could be found in eggs and larvae
