Abstract
The uropygial (preen) gland fat of the pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) is a mixture from diester waxes, of which erythro-octadecane-2,3-diol is the almost only alcoholic component. The acidic components are even- and odd-numbered fatty acids with a chain length of C6-C19. The depot fat investigated simultaneously is shown to be a mixture of triglycerides of usual composition.
Chemotaxonomically the pheasant is a typical member of the 18th order of the natural system.
