Abstract

In solutions of 4-isoeyanate-4'-dimethylamino-transstilbene (CDS) in benzene, chlorobenzene, cyclohexane and cyclohexanol at 293 K, the fluorescence is strongly anisotropic. The observed emission anisotropics r (polarization degrees P) of CDS in cyclohexane and cyclohexanol are approximately the same and amount t o r = 0.35 ( P = 0.45). This phenomenon is caused by the short lifetime of CDS and processes leading t o a very low quantum yield
