Abstract

The crystal structure of Na10Ga6Sn3 (a = 1457.6(3), c = 897.6(2) pm, P42/mnm, Z = 4) contains Ga12 icosahedra, which are connected by four of their eight exo-bound Sn atoms to form anionic chains 1 ∞[Ga12Sn4Sn4/2]20-. The structure is discussed on the basis of the Zintl concept and Wade’s rules.
