Abstract
The collective effects of two heteroatoms on the total π-electron energy, resonance energy and charge distribution of alternant conjugated molecules are examined. Three general rules for the signs of these effects are formulated. All these rules are shown to have a common origin and are conse-quences of certain mathematical properties of graph propagators.
