Abstract
MÖSSBAUER experiments have been performed on the 88.3 keV level in Hf176 and the 93.3 keV level in Hf180. A model-independent ratio for the quadrupole moments of the 2+ rotational states could be derived from the measured hyperfine splittings. The result is
Q(Hf176) / Q (Hf180) =1.10 ±0.02
in agreement with the model-dependent value calculated from the transition probabilities.
