Abstract
After addition of propionic acid [1-14C-3-T] and [2-14C-3-T] to “replacement” cultures of Streptomyces halstedii the 14C/T ratios and the distribution of the 14C and T activity were determined in magnamycin and its degradation products. The results prove that the methyl group at C-10 of magnamycin is derived from propionic acid.
