Abstract

The title compounds have been prepared by the reaction of N-chloro-trimethylsilylamino substituted SiCl4 and (Cl3Si)2O with PCl3. Their boiling points, mass spectra and vibrational spectra are compared with those of the isoelectronic perchloro-di-, -tri- and -tetrasiloxanes. In spite of their analogous structures and similar masses, the phosphaniminosilane derivatives are much less volatile than the analogous siloxanes. The mass spectra of both groups of compounds reveal very similar fragmentation patterns. A pronounced feature of the PNSi derivatives is the high wavenumber (∼1375 cm-1) of the PN stretching vibration. This is consistent with an enhanced PN bond order and a bond polarity +P—N- as suggested by other observations.
