Theorie der Polaritonen in zweiachsigen endlichen Ionenkristallen / Theory of Polaritons in Biaxial Finite Ionic Crystals

Abstract

A macroscopic theory of polaritons and long optical phonons in biaxial finite ionic crystals is presented. For the case of a crystal plate it is shown that the dispersion of surface and bulk polaritons is determined by a system of nonlinear equations. These equations may be combined to an explicit dispersion formula only for propagation directions parallel to the principal axes of the dielectric tensor of the crystal.
