Abstract
By using starch-gel electrophoresis the hemolymph proteins of metamorphosing queens and worker-ants of Formica polyctena were separated. By comparing the patterns thus obtained for 9 different developmental stages of the two female castes, it was shown that the electrophoretically separated fractions of queen and worker proteins are essentially the same whereas the distributionpattern of these fractions during metamorphosis is caste specific.
