Single crystals of NaSr3IrO6 have been prepared by heating mixtures of Na2O2, SrO and iridium in closed silver tubes and were investigated by X-ray techniques, NaSr3IrO6 crystallizes with trigonal (rhombohedral) symmetry in the space group D6
3d-R3̄ c , a = 9.636(2), c = 11.556(3) Å , Z = 6, and is isotypic to compounds of the Sr4PtO6 type. The substitution of Sr2+ by Na+ in NaSr3IrO6 led to an ordered metal distribution and an increase of the oxidation state from IrIV to Irv.
