Abstract
The study of a series of arsine boranes reveal that (C6H5)3As is a stronger base than (C6H5)2AsH and that the Lewis acidity of some boranes towards these bases decreases in the series BBr3 > BH3 > CH3BBr2 > (CH3)2BBr > (CH3)2BSCH3. The borane adducts of (CH3)4As2, (CH3)3SiAs(C6H5)2, (CH3)3SiAs(CH3)2 and (CH3)3SnAs(CH3)2 are thermally unstable. (CH3)3SiAs(C6H5)2 · BBr(C6H5)2 yields (CH3)3SiBr, B(C6H5)3 and [AsC6H5]n on decomposition.
