Fruitbodies of the basidiomycete Boletopsis leucomelaena contain the leuco-peracetates of thelephoric acid and cycloleucomelone (3 and 4, respectively). The latter compound is accompanied by a series of analogues, containing five, four, and three acetyl residues. The properties of Akagi’s “leucomelone” (1) and “protoleucomelone” (2) correspond to those of cycloleucomelone (7) and its leuco-peracetate 4.
