Abstract
Abstract
The preparation and characterization of two novel copper(II) complexes of formula [Cu2(bpca)2(C5H4NCO2)2]·(C5H4NCO2H)·H2O 1 and [Cu(bpca)(C7H5O3)]·H2O 2 [bpca=bis(2-pyridylcarbonyl)amide anion] are reported in this paper. The structures of complex 1 and 2 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and characterized by IR, UV-vis and EPR spectra. The magnetic susceptibilities measured over the range 2–300 K show a weak ferromagnetic interaction between the two copper(II) ions in complex 1, best fitting for the experimental data leads to J=0.073 cm−1, g=2.038, the 1/χM=f(
T
) curve for the complex fits Curie–Weiss law also implying the presence of ferromagnetic interactions between the neighboring Cu(II) atoms. For the complex 2, the study of EPR spectrum suggests the copper(II) atom is in a axial symmetry coordinated surrouding and the unpaired electrons occupy the dx2-y2 orbital.
