Abstract

Abstract The activity coefficients of molten salts with three components will be defined, and the logarithms of these activity coefficients will be represented as power series in the mole fractions of the two other components with integral exponents. Power series with three empirical parameters have proved useful as first approach for low molecular nonelectrolyte solutions, and they also describe the activity coefficients of a ternary melt adequately. In the appendix a general formula will be given for the activity coefficients of a melt composed arbitrarily containing water as an additional com­ponent.
