Abstract

Context: Fragment reattachment technique provides most conservative and esthetic treatment option in anterior tooth fractures due to dental trauma. Research through laboratory findings and clinical observations show debonding failures when the rapid load is applied. The fracture resistance of reattached incisor tooth fragments with a circumferential bevel, notches, grooves and the palatal cavity was evaluated and compared to understand the technique that achieves the better fracture resistance. Aims:. Evaluation and comparison of fractureresistance of the different fragment reattachment techniques such as circumferential bevel, notches, grooves and palatal cavity. Settings and Design:50 permanent central incisors extracted for therapeutic purpose were used. Ellis class II fracture was induced in selected teeth samples with the help of a custom made vise and was randomly assigned into five groups(n = 10), i.e. - Control, Circumferential Bevel, Notches, Grooves and Palatal Cavity Group. Methods and Material: Nano composite was used to restore the fractured teeth fragments after etching and bonding. Fracture resistance of reattached teeth samples were tested using the Universal Testing Machine at a speed of 1mmmin - 1. Statistical analysis used:Normality of the data was assessed using Shapiro Wilkinson test. Inferential statistics to find out the difference between and within the groups was done using ONE WAY ANOVA and TUKEYS POST HOC TEST. Results: The force required to fracture grooves group was found to be high followed by circumferential bevel, notches, simple reattachment and palatal cavity. Conclusions: The placement of grooves showed better fracture resistance . Key-words:Fracture Resistance, Fragment Reattachment, Circumferential Bevel, Notches, Grooves, Palatal Cavity.
