Management of a case of ankyloglossia using diode laser in a patient of underlying systemic condition/syndrome

Abstract

Background Tongue-tie or ankyloglossia is a rare congenital anomaly. It is a short, thick, and fibrosed lingual frenulum which causes restriction in function of the tongue and also in speech. For its management laser has some advantages over other techniques like less operative time, haemostasis, less postoperative complications. Result Uneventful healing was observed in 7 days as laser is less invasive, resulting in better healing. Conclusion Tongue being highly vascular and mobile structure, laser-assisted lingual frenectomy is the simplest, safest and less traumatic of all the treatment modalities available.
