The effect of perceived social support by healthcare professionals on emotional exhaustion during the Covid-19 process

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic, which has been rapidly affecting the world since 2019, not only has serious effects on human health, but also causes people to be adversely affected psychologically. Especially during the epidemic, it is seen that healthcare professionals feel emotionally exhausted due to the aggravating working conditions, and this situation affects not only themselves but also their colleagues, social environment, and family life. In this study, the effects of social support provided by managers and colleagues of healthcare professionals on emotional exhaustion in aggravated working conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic are examined. In this study, which aims to investigate the relationship between the perceived social support of healthcare professionals and emotional exhaustion during the Covid-19 pandemic, depending on the Theory of Conservation of Resources, the health personnel of a private hospital operating in Ankara was chosen as the research universe. The findings of the study showed that the support of the manager and the support of colleagues within the scope of the level of social support perceived by the healthcare professionals decreased the emotional exhaustion levels during the Covid-19 pandemic process.
