1. Lee , A. 1993.Supporting Visually Impaired Students in Further Education3Coventry The topic of visual impairment is complicated by the use of many different terms to describe various forms of visual impairment: blind, partially sighted, visually impaired, sight impaired and other terms are all in common usage. Throughout this article, the use of the term Visual impairment' is generic, including all physical conditions that involve reduced sight capacity. The term 'blind' is used here, as Ann Lee does, to refer to 'those who are unable to use the visual channel as a primary means of receiving information'. The majority of visually impaired people do use the visual channel as a primary means of receiving information and such people are described here as 'partially sighted'. Ann Lee uses the following definition of the term 'partially sighted': 'anyone whose vision cannot be corrected by the wearing of spectacles or for whom spectacles would be inappropriate as they would make no difference'
