1. Below are listed a selection of books and journal articles that the author has found useful in studying British education policy in India. The list is far from comprehensive and omits reference to the vast array of published government and commission reports etc. The most important of these prior to 1939 are listed in the extensive bibliography included in Nurullah and Naik’s A History of Education in India (1951). Many of the books cited below also contain extensive bibliographies, which should lead the would‐be researcher to most known published and archival sources.
