1. Round tables were regular conventions comprising women and men of a wide variety of political parties and organisations, generally chaired by a churchperson. Established at the end of 1989 to control and assist the GDR caretaker and the last and only freely elected government, and subsequently local governments. They faded out with unification. Controversial issues, often the reports of parliamentary committees or proposed bills, were discussed and a joint statement was made which was then handed over to the executive for their decision

3. The Federal Labour Ministry has initiated so-called job-providing measures (ABM – Arbeitsbeschaftungs massnahmen), financing temporary jobs employers or institutions cannot provide. Some academic women are taking advantage of this scheme
