1. The states which responded to the survey are: California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
2. Several directors returned questionnaires explaining that their programs had been cancelled. Others reported that their programs were only in the planning stages and would not be operative until the 1973–74 school year.
3. 81.3 per cent of the returns were from public schools. 11.8 per cent represented parochial schools and 2.1 per cent represented private, non-sectarian institutions. 4.4 per cent of those surveyed did not respond to this question.
4. California returned 61 questionnaires (54.1%). The next highest state was Pennsylvania. That state returned 24 questionnaires (35.2%).
