1. 7. We recognize the historiographical debates surrounding the Sophists and how they might be productively reanimated in contemporary rhetorical cultures. Our phrase, “hypersophistic attitude in visual culture,” is meant to refer to how the Sophists provide a “model for how theory and practice can work together to develop radical democratic pedagogies rooted in an attitude of experimentalism and expressed in novel methods of invention” ( Crick 2010, 28).
