Abstract

AbstractThis chapter explores how the education system in early Soviet Kazakhstan reflected the policies intended to develop Soviet citizenry. The methodology is archival research on analyzing primary sources of protocols, decrees, and acts in the educational sphere. I argue that the main political and socio-economic initiatives driven by the Soviet administration in the 1920s shaped the ideas expressed in the educational policy documents. Moreover, by placing the Marxist-Leninist philosophy through ideological indoctrination and “political enlightenment” of mass consciousness in educational establishments, the early Soviet educational initiatives left a lasting and profound legacy in legitimizing the Communist Party’s right to rule and training citizens loyal to the new regime.
