This investigation sought to enhance the accuracy of prevalence estimates for hoarding disorder (HD) by applying the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria during in-home, face-to-face interviews with a diverse community sample. The weighted prevalence was 1.5%, lower than estimates from previous studies. Prevalence rates were greater for older adults and similar between male and female clients. Characterizing the population of persons with hoarding disorder may enhance the identification and treatment of hoarding.
