Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2009;53(12):5046–54. Paper describes the first patient documented to be infected with NDM-1; characterizes the new metallo-beta-lactamase.

Lancet Infect Dis. 2010;10(9):597–602. Authors identified NDM-1-positive isolates from India, Pakistan, and the UK. Many of the source patients in had traveled to India or Pakistan. Isolates were multidrug-resistant; resistance on plasmids transferred readily to other Enterobacteriaceae.
