This review provides the most recent prevalence of childhood obesity in the USA population, sampling data from 26 690 children over 14 years (1999–2012). The survey reveals that while obesity prevalence has increased during this time, more recent years show a levelling off, with the exception of an upward trend of more severe forms of obesity. This paper highlights the need for further studies addressing the factors impacting both positive and negative trends.
