Abstract
AbstractCysteine-Cathepsins are potent lysosomal proteases with many functions in cell physiology. Their dysregulated activity is now a widely accepted hallmark for several diseases, including cancer. This review explores the cathepsin structure, biogenesis, activity regulation, and localization, alongside recent research focusing on cancer. It emphasizes the potential for theranostic strategies utilizing these proteases.
