Improvements in iridium target chemistry

Abstract

AbstractWe developed and optimized the dissolution and separation chemistry of iridium (Ir) from irradiated Ir pellets and prepared Ir counting samples for analysis by a silicon drift detector. Previous Ir chemistry techniques used on the irradiated Ir pellets are tedious, lengthy, and require extra safety precautions and planning due to the use of perchloric acid in the dissolution step. The dissolution and separations method described in this paper are safer, eliminating the use of perchloric acid, more efficient, and can successfully replace the previous procedure.
